Yuvonne Hurd

Hurd's Heroes

Hi!  My name is Yuvonne Hurd.  Let me share a little information about myself.  I was born in Florida, but moved many places due to a father who served in the Air Force and a husband who served in the Navy. We settled in Pensacola and have lived here for over 30 years. I have been married 42 years to my wonderful husband!  We have one daughter, two sons, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter!

I graduated from the University of West Florida with a B.A. in Education and in the last 5 years completed my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  This is my 22nd year teaching - seven years in Middle School and the rest in 5th grade.  I still consider myself a student as I am eager to learn new things that will enhance my students' education.

I set high goals and expectations for my students because I know they can accomplish more than they think they can. With that being said, the students will need to work hard in order to meet these goals and expectations, but it is my intention to guide them and make sure we have fun along the way.  I want your child to become an independent learner who is more than ready for middle school by the end of the year. Fifth grade is a transitional year where your child will need to learn the necessary skills to become less dependent upon the teacher and more dependent upon himself or herself.  That means they will need to know how to problem solve, use their resources, and above all believe in themselves and their abilities.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.  As a parent, I understand the importance of parent-teacher communication.  I will send out Remind messages as often as I can but if you have a question, please email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

We do not have to become heroes overnight. Just a step at a time, meeting each thing that comes up ... discovering we have the strength to stare it down.
