Teacher of The Year

2021-2022 Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Rachel Venable

My dad told me one time, “If you do what you love you will never have to work a day in your life.” That has stuck with me and I have found it to be true. I am blessed that I get to teach every day, not just go to work! My goal each day is to make a difference and help my students realize their potential. I have been teaching for thirteen years and all of them have been at Molino Park. I received my degree from the University of West Florida. I have taught first and second before I moved to fourth grade. I currently teach reading and social studies in fourth grade. I love teaching reading to my students because when you read you can go anywhere. I want everyone to love reading as much as I do. Reading is my biggest hobby. I read all the time and even listen to books in the car when I am driving. Watching a child not just learn  to read, but find a love for reading inspires me. I want to see every child learn to love reading as I love it. I want to see the joy in my student’s eyes as they describe the characters and tell me about what is happening in the books they are reading. I love introducing students to new genres they wouldn’t usually pick on their own, but find out they really enjoy reading it. Reading is a vital skill every person needs. When I see a student struggling to read I do everything I can to help them with whatever concept they struggle with, so they can become successful. I ensure students have books to read that they will enjoy and that are on their level.  I have spent many years building a classroom library so my students have books from every genre and reading level readily available each day. Every other subject requires reading and my inspiration is for my students to become the best at it, so they can be successful in school, and become anything they want in life. I am not just a teacher, I’m a wife, mom, and grandma! This year I will be married 25 years. We have two children; Josephine, 24 and Nicholas, 20. I also have a beautiful granddaughter Lilly born on December 6, 2020. I enjoy having friends and family at my house to play games and have cookouts. I have a huge family and love spending time with them. I have a sister, two brothers, tons of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Some activities I enjoy are reading, fishing, playing board games, putting puzzles together, and watching movies.  At Molino Park we have an amazing group of teachers, and it is a great honor to be chosen as the teacher of the year.
